The Livestock Site a leading online magazine has launched a public announcement campaign to remind Livestock producers in East Africa to vaccinate their animals against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) for cattle, Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) for sheep and goats, and Rift Valley Fever (RVF)—a critical vector-borne disease that surges heavily during wet El Niño conditions has commemnced.
Farmeres are encouraged to rely on locally manufactured vaccines from the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute (KEVEVAPI), a state corporation under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development.

KEVEVAPI is instrumental in producing, marketing, and distributing vaccines for livestock diseases, including foot-and-mouth disease, Rift Valley fever, and Newcastle disease.

Farmers are encouraged to work with their local veterinary professionals to execute the exercise.
Farmers are also encouraged to establish Biosecurity protocals at their farms.

Recommended Vaccinations by Animal Type
Rift Valley Fever (RVF) Give to cattle, sheep, and goats. This is a critical zoonotic disease (transmissible to humans) that spikes dramatically after heavy flooding and causes widespread abortions and death in young livestock.
Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) Give to cattle. Wet conditions accelerate the spread of this highly contagious virus, which severely impacts milk production and trade.

Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) Give to sheep and goats (often called goat plague).
Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) Give to cattle to prevent painful skin nodules, lowered milk yields, and secondary bacterial infections.

Combination Vaccines Utilize emerging multi-disease formulations—such as newly introduced combination vaccines for small ruminants—where available through local veterinary offices.
